Who Can Wear Contact Lenses?

Although contact lenses are a fantastic alternative to traditional eyeglasses, they aren’t recommended for everyone. To determine if you’re a good candidate for contact lens use, we will need to perform a comprehensive eye exam.

Common factors that could affect your ability to wear contact lenses include:

The Contact Lens Process

The Eye Exams

You will first need to have a comprehensive eye exam before we can fit you with contact lenses. During the eye exam, your optometrist will determine your prescription and decide if your eyes are healthy enough for contact lenses.

During the fitting process, our doctors will take detailed measurements of your eye’s corneal parameters, like its shape and size. Your optometrist will then fit your eyes with contact lenses, and make any adjustments to ensure they fit comfortably.

During the trial period, you will take a trial pair of contact lenses home to wear for a couple of weeks. Your optometrist will book a follow-up appointment to see how well you’ve adjusted to wearing contact lenses.

If everything is performing as expected, we can help you order a supply of your new contact lenses!

Specialty Lenses

MiSight 1-Day

MiSight 1-Day disposable contacts are commonly used to help manage symptoms of myopia in children. The contacts use rings of peripheral myopic defocus to help slow down myopia progression while also providing clear central vision.

Orthokeratology contact lenses are used to help reduce myopia symptoms. These specialty contact lenses temporarily reshape the cornea while you sleep, allowing you to enjoy clear vision throughout the day without the need for contact lenses or eyeglasses.

Some people may find it difficult to wear contact lenses due to corneal conditions like keratoconus. Scleral lenses are designed with a larger diameter than traditional contact lenses, allowing them to sit on the whites of your eyes and “vault” over the cornea, providing comfortable vision even with a corneal condition.

Multifocal lenses contain multiple prescriptions to help patients achieve freedom from bifocal eyeglasses or reading eyeglasses! These contact lenses are also recommended for managing the myopia progression and need specific expertise to fit properly.
