Can you read this?
Common vision problems can cause difficulty and frustration with reading and learning.
Imagine being a second grader and just learning how to read. If a child is suffering from a common binocular vision problem, his or her eyes don’t work as a team. When that happens, their eyes can cause strange visual symptoms – very similar to the “double vision” simulated above. The child likely has great eyesight and can see far away without much problem. But when they have to focus on a near target (like a book or device), their eye muscles get overworked causing these symptoms.
Here are some common signs and symptoms to watch for in you or your child:
- BLURRY or DOUBLE VISION
- LOSING PLACE when reading
- Poor reading COMPREHENSION
- HEADACHES when reading
- LAZY Eye or EYE TURN
- FRUSTRATIONS with SCHOOL
- Taking forever to do HOMEWORK
- Symptoms of DYSLEXIA or ADHD
If you notice any of those symptoms, consider VISION THERAPY to improve the binocular vision system.
Vision Therapy is an individualized, supervised, treatment program designed to correct visual-motor and/or perceptual-cognitive deficiencies. The program is prescribed by one of our optometrists. The activities and training is administered by one of our vision therapists. The program includes procedures designed to enhance the brain’s ability to control:
- Eye alignment
- Eye teaming
- Eye focusing abilities
- Eye movements / tracking
- Eye-hand coordination
- Visual processing
Visual-motor skills and endurance are developed through the use of specialized computer and optical devices, including therapeutic lenses, prisms, and filters. During the final phase of therapy, the patient’s newly acquired visual skills are reinforced and made automatic through repetition and by integration with motor and cognitive skills.
